PT-VME901 provides VMEbus-based workstation system users with a high-performance means of transparently extending the VMEbus architecture touse external VMEbus board-level products and subsystems. The workstationis designated as the VMEbus host, and supplies bus arbitration and othertypical system controller functions. The external VMEbus components aredesignated as the nonhost subsystem. Nonhost VMEbus componentsfunctionally appear as an extension of the workstation VMEbus.PT-VME901 expansion approach divides the VMEbus 16-MB address and 64-KBshort I/O address range into host and nonhost segments, and provides aVMEbus 16-bit data and 24-bit address expansion. Workstation dynamic bussizing of the 68020 processor and the VMEbus allows PT-VME901 to be usedwith little subsystem and can access slaves in the nonhost subsystem orthe workstation.
